Fresno City College was the first community college in the state of California and the second community college to open in the nation, so it could be said it has had to reinvent itself from time to time, and its Wi-Fi solution was no exception.
The college recently refurbished and renovated a landmark administration building, adding an extra 100,000 square feet of space to its campus. The additional space and the BYOD explosion of mobile devices forced the college to re-evaluate its wireless solution. The controller-based solution it had in place no longer made sense.
Fresno City College evaluated several networking vendors including Cisco, Aruba, Meraki, Meru and Ruckus. Ultimately, Aerohive was chosen for its strong feature set, remote management capability, ease of deployment, and cost-effective controller-less solution.
